Tagged

I'm bored enough to do this tag...why not?!

What I was doing 10 years ago: I was fourteen and entering high school! My mom thought for sure that I was going to have a hard transition because I was so shy! Thanks to my sister, she took me under her wing and taught me the ropes.

5 years ago: I was attending EAC living in my first off campus house with some of the best roommates ever!! That house had a door with a HUGE gap at the bottom and and we had a mouse, frog, and many other creatures become our roommates. We made our own trap for the mouse and were all ready for it to be dead and then we caught it and there were tears! Great memories!!

1 year ago: Living in Gilbert, AZ, in an apartment. I was battling with myself whether or not I was going back to school or not.

Yesterday: I was a work and was BOREd out of my mind, finished my AWESOME book, went grocery shopping, got a wonderful massage, and then talk for an hour and a half with Ash!

5 favorite books: Twilight, Eclipse, The Host, Dracula, and ...

5 fave places to run away: ABQ, Alaska, Doug's, home, the mall

5 bad habits: picking my fingers, biting my lip, taking my grouchiness out on Lyle, eating unhealthy, not putting things away right away.

5 things I would never wear: bakini, mini skirt, belly shirt, tank top, strap-less

5 pet peeves: I can't think off the top of my head.

5 things I enjoy: tv, reading, horses, being a child with Lyle, living in my house and decorating, family, art...that's more than 3.

5 favorite t.v. shows: america's next top model, hell's kitchen, farmer wants a wife, celebrity circus, two and a half men

5 people I want to tag: Keri, Erin, Jake/Maria, Chantel, Ashley U

The Host

After three days of constant reading, I have finished yet another great book by Stephanie Meyers. It was such an interesting twist that it took me a while to get into the first chapter, but after that, I was hooked.

Lyle will be happy that I am done so that I will start doing something around the house again.

I can't wait for Breaking Dawn!! Another potential great read!!!

I GOT IT!!!!

I am an official intern with the Arizona Museum for Youth!! I am so excited about it as are they! It's such an awesome place, better than I thought and they are willing to let me be apart of the design aspect which takes care of the design side of my major so I am very thrilled. Now I just have to do the application! YAY!

I'm an aunt...again!

Chloe was born yesterday around 5:00, and she was 7lbs 2oz! Jess and Brian are doing great. What a great Father's Day gift for them!

Jess was in labor from 8 on the 13th adn then at 4 yesterday when nothing was progression, they decided to do a c-section. So after many long hours for Jess, even Brian put in a 42 hour non-sleep "shift" and Brenda did 40,they are all very tired, but so happy to have this sweet blessing apart of their lives. She will definatly bless us all!

We are going to see them today at the hospital and I can't wait!

They've posted pics of everyone on the web. The site is below.

Congrats, Jess and Brian and Happy Father's Day, Brian and Doug!

Background Business

Keri finally started a blog!! Because she started, we have been spending many hours on the phone trying to figure out how to change the background (from the typical template that comes with the original site) and then picking the right one that's us.
We FINALLY figured out that there are three different sites that you can get cute backgrounds for absolutely FREE and so I wanted others to know.

thecutestblogontheblock.com

pyzam.com

finalsense.com

Keri and I spent hours going thru these options and figuring out which one was Lyle and I....hence the horse....(Jill there were TONS that were you! you should start a BLOG!Oh! and Mom should blog since she can see what's happeneing in her kid's lives now but not visa versa!)

anyway...what you do to apply it is find the code for the background (it'll be long and have tonz of jibberish), copy that, then got to your blog and customize, layout, edit html, and paste the code in the large box. Then save and it'll apply! It's really easy and of course this is for blogspot/bloggers, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was very simiar in other programs.
So now that I know, I'll probably be changing mine often...what fun! I hope this helps!
Happy blogging!

Internship Possibility!

I have been searching and contacting people for my internship for the last two months and I have had NO luck!! It's very hard to find an internship that uses both concentrations of child development and design as opposed to business and communication where you can be a cashier and all is good. So I was in contact with the children's art museum in downtown Phoenix, but when it came time for the interview set-up, the lady never got back with me...even though I was in contact with her for three months straight. Frustrating!! The only good thing is that I REALLY don't want to do this internship because it's downtown and those that have seen phx traffic know it's MISERABLE. So I really don't want to go to downtown everyday. Anyway- I went for the weekend to the resort and happened to pick up a magazine that informs you of all that's around in AZ for tourists and lo and behold, I found there was a Arizona Museum for Youth in MESA!! That's VERY close to where we live AND close to campus. So I emailed the lady and called her on Monday and happily got an interview for Thursday the 19th. It's very promising and they seem VERY excited that I'm interested.
Check list:
Interview, check.
Internship, hopeful check.
Application, no problem, soon check.
All before the deadline of July 17th, we'll see. Hopeful check.

VACATION!

Lyle and I had the opportunity Friday night and Saturday to stay at the Scottsdale Camelback Resort with friends.

Main room, kitchen, and other side of main room
patio,
Awesome tub, Rich glasses among other things
We made breakfast for our friends!
master bedroom

We were able to go swimming, dry off by the fireplace-poolside, relax on the patio, watch TV, participate in water aerobics, play dunking and volleyball, and eat at Olive Garden (which I have been craving pasta for a long time!! and it was heavenly!)

The funny part is that our friends told us to take to spare bedroom (before they knew) and it turned out that the spareroom comprised of two twin sized beds. It was pretty funny since Lyle had been complaining about my snoring and saying that we should go back to twin sized beds...well here's your chance!)

Lastly, this was the view from our patio:

Just kidding, it was too good to be true, but not that too good! :)

OH! I was camera happy and these are some views I caught that were interesting:
We had such a great time and actually think that this would be a good idea for a family reunion since the prices of resorts go down in phoenix due to the hot weather...so they're very affordable and offer many ways to stay cool! The places were stocked with all the supplies needed in the kitchen and bathrooms and packed with so much fun!! Some ammenities:
Racketball courts
croquet fields
horseshoe pits
tennis courts
nearby shopping
spa
pool
daily activites
hiking
so much more...
Family...interested?
Thanks again for a great weekend, friends!

Let It Go Down in History!

I am very close to my family and I talk often with my sisters and parents, but when it comes to my brother and his family...that's a different story. I haven't talked to them for many many moons. They were in ABQ for a week about a month ago, and I attempted to talk to him, but every time I called he was either at work (CIA business) or putting the kids to sleep and I never got to talk to him. So they came, they went and no call from Andy(never called, never wrote!)...I just figured I'd never hear his voice again, but lo and behold, randomly yesterday, I get a random 571 number calling and I just figured it was a sales person but picked it up anyway. IT WAS MY BROTHER!!! with spare time and decided to call! We proceeded to talk for about 30 min before he had to go, but it was such a great conversation and so great to hear from him and heidi (she's in the backgroung apart of the conversation). I love them both, but with them in Virginia and me in Arizona...let's just say I haven't seen them since I got married two years ago. So I REALLY enjoyed the conversation. Maybe it will happen more often...hint, hint, hint (if they're reading this!)...or at least I'd settle for a blog. :) Love you guys!

Andy, Noah, and Micah

Heidi and Micah

I don't have a recent family picture so I just picked cute ones I had saved on email. Keep those pictures coming!

Grown don't mean nothing to a mother. A child is a child. They get bigger, older, but grown? What's that suppose to mean? In my heart it don't mean a thing. ~Toni Morrison, Beloved, 1987
I had an experience this morning that really opened my eyes! I won't go into details, but it really made me realize how much my mother meant to me. Even though I live miles away and I am married to the man of my dreams, I still need my mother. That's why I posted the above quote.
I will always be my mother's baby, and no matter how old or tall I get, and how many times I tell her that I am now 24 years old, and NOT a baby, it never matters to her and honestly, it doesn't matter to me either that I am her 24 year old baby. I am her child and always will be and will always want her a part of my life!
Thank you, mom!

The Tasks of a Manager

Lyle has been a manager for two plus years now and it definatly has it's good days and bad days AND nights. That's one task that comes with the territory.
Work never ends when you over see the trucking side of the company. We get calls at all times of the night for break downs, running out of gas, and even fires. All in a day's (night's) work. Lyle is pretty patient, but last night was a different story.
Lyle has so much going on in his head that sometimes he just won't sleep (more and more like Doug each day!). Well last night was one of those and he had been trying to sleep since 11:00. At 12:00, MIDNIGHT, one of his truckers called...one that I have no patience for because he can't help himself in ANYTHING!...and he ran out of gas in the middle of no where. Well, it's a typical thing when you oversee five or six trucks. The problem is that this guy purposely didn't fill his tank all the way. ALSO, on a night that Lyle is VERY tired but can't sleep, this truck driver thinks it's funny.

Let's just say Lyle had NO patience and left the guy there for the night. Let's also say that now, Lyle could use a LONG nap.
He's not grouchy...he's just not smiling....which you all know is not a good thing for Lyle. That's why I'm smiling extra today-Per his request (even though I don't feel good, but some sacrifices have to be made). You want to help me?

This and That

So my wall has been pretty bare in the front room, but I finally had the time on Sunday to arrange the pictures and get them on the wall. So...
...here's the final product of my craft and the family wall! Well...I still have aspects to change, like getting a family picture of Lyle's family-that's what is missing from the wall...the frame is there! It doesn't mean I love them less. :) I also am thinking about adding ribbon bows on the top of the pegs...what do you think? I also have to find something for the middle gap, so I'm far from finishing, but at least it's up and out of the way.I also thought it'd be fun to post our picture wall and show how full it is. We might have to add another board. We just love our friends and family! Keep the pictures coming!
Lastly, I thought I would post a picture of our new comer. It's our new orange tree we planted just recently along with a peach tree. Boy, am I excited for the fruit off these trees...even though it will be a while. That's okay...the wait will be worth it! These trees are just a few of the pieces that make up the beautiful backyard that Lyle spends a lot of time in caring for it. This is his baby!

Starting Somewhere

I figured that since I was always telling people that they should start a blog, I ought to take my own advice. I kept using the excuse that there's not much going on in the lives of a married, childless couple...nothing worthy of a blog, but if you think about it, it's easier to post every now and then than to send out a once in a blue moon email that is so long that the email logs me out and erases the novel I just spent forever writing, and then I have to rewrite it with an edge of annoyance because it's not as cute or interesting the second time around! =/

So even though this blog is filled with everyday happenings of Lyle and Katy and no pictures of babies that belong to Lyle and I, there will be pictures of babies since I have the most adorable nephew with the cheesiest grin, Colson, and my soon-to-appear drama-queen--yes, I'm joining this world, no, not yet, niece, Chloe (Jess is so frustrated and ready to have this undecided baby out!), and my mischievous two Virginia nephews, Noah and Micah... they will definitely keep you coming back even if the Hanchett's lives are work, work and work. Some excitement does happen even if it IS occasional...

So enjoy the blog and the family updates and remember that even though you don't get the mass emails anymore...we still love you all!

See what I mean about my adorable nephew? You gotta love him!
